2022-07-04 Forestry training “Planting”

Following on from last week, we will be introducing the intensive "Silk Cultivation Practical Training" course at the Department of Department of Ecoregion Science Faculty of Agriculture.
Today is planting!
One who plants a tree.
This is TUAT of Tokyo's experimental forest, Field Museum (FM) plants.
The technical staff are planting cedar seedlings in the area that had been cut down in advance and prepared for the students.
"Site preparation" involves collecting branches, leaves, and unharvested trunks and stacking them on shelves to make them easier to plant, and also to prevent soil erosion.
Each student will plant 20 seedlings!
In the first photo, the student is carrying a "planting bag" on his back containing 20 seedlings each.
It's convenient because you can pull it out from the hole on the side of the bag while carrying it on your back.
Apparently there are plans to erect a deer-proof fence around the yellow tape in the foreground.
Recently, the density of deer has increased and they are eating the planted trees, so I always make sure to erect deer-proof fences to prevent deer from entering the planting area to prevent damage.

The place to plant is in the ``earth preparation'' room as shown in the second photo.
A dog that often steps around the surrounding area and firmly stands the seedlings.
Finally, spread fertilizer in a semicircle on the mountain side to encourage the roots to grow well.
I want everyone to grow up healthy!

If you look at the third photo, you can see that many students are working together.
Gradually climb straight up and plant the dogs so that they fit together with their neighbors to form a beautiful grid-like shape.

The fourth photo is a view looking down from the top of the planting site.
We didn't plant anything up to the top during the training, so we haven't done any ``preparation'' yet.
It feels great to see the beautiful fresh green mountains beyond the valley.
In the fifth photo, the dog is sitting on a stump in the planting area and taking a break.
One where you can see Mt. Sankyo, the highest peak of FM plants, in the distance.
On Friday, Wan will show you how pruning is done.
