Notice of reorganization of Graduate School of Agriculture (Master's Program) at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in April 2019
START!! NEXT Graduate School of Agriculture
-Changing the world through agriculture-
Graduate School of Agriculture will evolve in April 2019!
Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology has been planning to reorganize its Graduate School of Agriculture (Master's course) from its current nine majors into one "Department of Agriculture" with six courses: Bioproduction Science, Applied Life Chemistry, Natural Environment Resources, Food and Agricultural Information Engineering, Geosociology, and International Innovation Agriculture. The University has submitted a plan for establishment to the Subcommittee on University Chartering, Council for University Chartering and School Corporations, under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, for review. The Subcommittee has now received a response in favor of the reorganization of the graduate school.
We will develop practical talent who can tackle global issues through agricultural science!
This reorganization of Graduate School of Agriculture presents a new style of graduate education based on agriculture, to develop human resources capable of tackling global issues. The key word is "borderless." All of the nine previous departments will be consolidated into one, stimulating academic exchange between specialized fields. In addition, we will also provide overseas research study programs and double degree programs with partner universities. We will also focus on developing skills that meet the needs of a global society. In addition, we will actively create opportunities to learn together with working adults through industry-academia-government collaboration projects, and will hone the practical skills to solve problems in the real world.

Biological Production Science Course
This course allows students to learn a wide range of fields to solve various problems in domestic and international agriculture, food issues, biological production and control, plant protection technology, etc. Students will develop the ability to carry out cutting-edge research in the fields of production environment science, plant production science, animal production science, and biocontrol science. Students will be trained to become talented individuals with advanced specialized knowledge and logical, scientific thinking skills, aiming to build stable biological production systems that support the survival of humankind.
Applied Life Chemistry Course
This course will enable students to acquire the advanced specialized knowledge required to understand and explore the life phenomena and biomolecular functions of humans, animals, plants, microorganisms, etc. at the molecular level. Students will develop the practical skills to take the initiative in original and innovative research and develop them further. Students will acquire the world's most cutting-edge knowledge and technology in life sciences, and will be trained to become creative "agrolife chemists" who can contribute to the sustainable development of human society from an international perspective.
Natural environmental resources course
This is a cross-sectional course that offers a wide range of courses, including the construction of low-environmental-impact resource circulation systems, such as the production, conversion, and recycling of natural resources, mainly biomass, specialized techniques such as environmental measurement, phenomenon elucidation, and modeling, and the latest practical methods for connecting human society and regions. Students will acquire cutting-edge knowledge and techniques for protecting the biosphere and utilizing forest resources, and will develop human resources who can contribute to the sustainable use, protection, and restoration of the natural environment.
Food and Agriculture Information Engineering Course
This course allows students to acquire advanced specialized skills in innovative measurement methods, data analysis, and future prediction methods to clarify the structure and function of various phenomena in agricultural production, the natural environment, farm work, and local life. Based on the food issue that is related to the survival of humankind, this course deals with practical issues such as environmental conservation and effective use of agricultural and environmental resources at various scales from the local to global level.
We will develop human resources who can take on the challenge of solving problems.
Geosociology Course
In order to build an environmentally symbiotic and sustainable society, we will conduct research based on a comprehensive approach of humanities and social sciences, based on basic knowledge of science and technology in various agricultural fields. We will also conduct innovative academic research in the specialized fields of symbiotic human studies, environmental and social relations studies, and food and environmental economics, and we will train experts and researchers with a broad perspective who have outstanding abilities in planning, task execution, and coordination.
International Innovation Agriculture Course
This course cultivates specialized knowledge of science and technology related to innovative food production, environmental conservation, next-generation biological production technology, and infectious disease control, so that students can contribute to the sustainable development of rural areas around the world and the maintenance and development of social infrastructure. Students also develop language and communication skills for disseminating information internationally and solving problems. We cultivate talented people with a global perspective and advanced specialized knowledge who can solve problems while collaborating with a variety of academic fields.
